Born in Italy, Massimo Capra’s culinary training began in Salsomaggiore, Parma. He commenced his career at several high-end hotels in Italy and various resorts.
Coming to Toronto in 1982, Massimo worked at Archers, a restaurant owned by a family member. In 1989 he became an acclaimed chef at Prego della Piazza, where he remained for nine years.
In 2010 Massimo licensed his name to the famous Rainbow Room restaurant at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Niagara Falls. He has collaborated with SSP to create the successful Boccone Trattoria Veloce and Boccone Pronto at Pearson International Airport and Soprafino Restaurant at Hamad International in Doha.
He recently opened Capra’s Kitchen – a casual Italian eatery with an emphasis on hand-made pasta, pizza and antipasto – in his hometown of Mississauga, Ontario.
Author of One Pot Italian and 3 Chefs: The Kitchen Men, which in 2011 received the gold accolade from Canadian Culinary Book Award, Massimo is also the food editor for Canadian Home Trends magazine.
Massimo is the host of his own show Gourmet Escapes; a regular guest expert on the long-running City TV Cityline; chef host on the hit series Restaurant Makeover on the Food Network; and judge on the hit show Chopped Canada.
